Concepción del Uruguay was founded on June 25th, 1783 by Don Tomás de Rocamora. It was known as the "The Historical One" as several political, military and institutional events of great significance for the country took place there.

It was the cradle of the country's National Organization and the site were the last Amendment of the National Constitution was approved in the year 1994. This city is famous for its seaside resorts and beaches along the shore of the Uruguay river.

The most prominent beaches are Banco Pelay and Itapé. Several of its buildings have been declared "National Historical Monuments" due to their importance to the historical and cultural heritage of the country - our Regional University building is one of them.
