Cuis and Morphic 3 by Juan Vuletich



Cuis is a free Smalltalk-80 environment derived from Squeak (www.squeak.org). We are distilling the essence of Smalltalk-80 in Squeak drop by drop. The main objective of Cuis is to avoid unneeded complexity. Complexity puts a limit to the level of understanding of the system a person might reach, and therefore limits the things that can be done. Dan Ingalls says all this in "Design Principles Behind Smalltalk". Morphic 3 is a research and development project aimed at building the next standard in 2D user interfaces. It will be fully zoomeable, and will do mathematically proved alias-free rendering. In order to achieve these objectives, several techniques and design features are described. Some of them are new and others are not, but have never been consistently applied to a 2D GUI.
